'Wiedergänger' is here!
With their concept album 'In Gedenken', which was enthusiastically receivedby critics and fans alike, still reverberating, SPIELBANN prove that theycan be counted among those restless spirits who are much too busy to justrest on their laurels.
Just a few months later, the quintet from the German state of Saarlanddelivers a collection of 14 tracks that can, and indeed should, be seen asan important supplement to the collection of stories that made up InGedenken. Here the listener is presented with a few more enchanting chaptersto the anthology of the ghostly candles, and which represent a welcomecontinuation of that album. The reader is permitted to catch a last glimpse,as if long-lost manuscript pages from a long-forgotten book featuring one ofhis heroes from a novel had expanded in front of his very eyes. The twoexclusive new tracks, 'Feuerteufel' and 'PhantomSchmerz', quickly make itclear that the aim of this release is not to gather up odds and ends thatnever had a chance of making it onto the album. No, on this release, thetales about the 'keeper' instead break new ground. The spirits did NOT wantto fall silent.
Another important part of this release is a complete (!) SPIELBANN concert, recorded on ASP's 'VERFALLEN' tour last autumn. It was above all SPIELBANN'slive qualities that drew them to the attention of gothic novel rock icon Aspas part of his unparalleled 'MäzenatenTumult' (PatronageTumult) newcomercampaign in 2013. On that basis he decided to bring the band under hisexperienced wing (or rather: butterfly wings?), and was convinced that thishighly energetic band should not be kept away from a wider audience anylonger! Just as he did with In Gedenken, the star of the dark alternativescene also contributes to 'Wiedergänger'.
To a great extent, this is due to the vocal performance, which will come toset new standards within the scene. In Seb Storm and his female counterpartNic Frost, two voices have found each other that could not harmonise witheach other better. Their voices radiate a quite unique energy; not just onstage but also on their studio albums. For the 'Wiedergänger' CD, the singers posed themselves a very specialchallenge: in order to push their stage personas to their very limits, Nicand Seb slipped into the role of their respective vocal counterpart. Indoing so, they have succeeded in eliciting completely new facets from twoabsolutely outstanding pieces from the In Gedenken stories. With thequestion, "What if?" on their lips, they each sought out the other's moststirring solo piece and then, with great dedication, produced their ownreinterpretation of the story.
An elaborately recorded new version of a classic SPIELBANN track from 2006and a gripping piano version of the morbid masterpiece 'Haus des Vergessens'round off the 'Wiedergänger' collection.
The artwork seamlessly complements the visual world of In Gedenken, becauseWiedergänger is an absolutely indispensable component of this greatcollection of emotional rollercoasters/ghost train rides.
Timo Würz (MARVEL, George Lucas, Disney, FESTA) also ennobles 'Wiedergänger'with his visual nightmare worlds.
