Ladies and lads, we have the pleasure to announce the first new recordings by THE SKINFLICKS in almost two decades! (insert dramatic drum roll)
After such a prolonged absence from the studios and the stages of the world, THE SKINFLICKS have deemed that the time has come to grace the world with their unique brand of brick-wall Oi sound, paired with tongue-in-cheek-humoured lyrics again.
With “Won’t bend the knee”, the A-side features a brand-new song, boasting not only brazenly defiant and angry, bitterly sarcastical lyrics, but a raw, powerful sound! This style clearly harks back to the golden age of Oi-oi music and streetpunk, when the bands were not yet obsessed with sprinkling tame, unoffending lyrics over a perfectly sterile and overdubbed metal production.
Instead, this is a raw, live, demo-type sound that will make any fan of the genre smile with nostalgic reassurance and which fits the swift, stormy, no-punches-pulled songwriting like a glove!
To prove they haven’t lost one bit of their bitter, ironic, sense of humour, the “B side” showcases a reimagining of a classic song of the band, “I hate Hippies”, which is adapted to modern times by shifting the target to “I hate HIPSTERS”. As usual, frontman Jerome is spitting the lyrics out with all of the appropriate vitriol and dark sense of humour.
This short, but sweet, package announces the return of THE SKINFLICKS to the live stage later on this year.
And, oh, ...YOU’RE FUCKING WELCOME!
