REQUIEM IN WHITE was a Gothic Rock-Opera group (1985-1994) with Lisa Hammer on vocals, Doc Hammer on guitars, bassist Chris Walsh (RIP) and Drummer Javier Madariaga (Reagan Youth). The band had a loyal cult following, influencing many of the Medieval/ Ethereal/ Gothic Rock groups after them. They played with bands such as Type-O-Negative, Christian Death, Sex Gang Children and Biohazard.

The band formed in the summer of 1985 by core members Doc and Lisa Hammer and Chris Walsh in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
At that time, in Boston there was no organized gothic scene. Any band with a dark image had to fend for itself. Strangely enough, Requiem in White‘s eclectic, dark and romantic sound and look was gaining more fans and attention than it even knew: they were being bootlegged, widely talked and written about, imitated, and even their humble demo tapes were being hunted down by fans.

By the time they relocated to New York City in 1989, there was a healthy gothic scene, and Requiem in White had achieved a level of status which placed them at the forefront of the gothic movement. Their refusal to ever grant an interview or any kind of publicity created such an air of mystery around them, that they attracted a loyal cult following, one that still grows to this day, even after the break-up.

By 1994 the band was playing to thousands of fans at places like the Limelight, CBGB, Danceteria and the Ritz, headlining or opening up for bigger bands like Type-O Negative, Sex Gang Children, Christian Death and Biohazard. They were constantly in the fanzines, on the internet, on compilations and bootlegs, videos, stickers and on the backs of fans’ jackets. Theirs was truly a “grass roots” fame, of the sort which history has proven to be the most enduring.

The 1994 break-up was painful for all, and fans were devastated. They had seen Requiem in White as the “last original band” in a sea of “goth imitators” and “vapid drum machine clone bands”. Requiem in White had embodied the sound and image of their deepest romantic fantasies.

We are proud to announce that The Circle Music will release for first time “Hymnal of Remembrance” on vinyl, which includes the second album “Of The Want Infinite” (1994) together with the original recordings of the 2 Demos (“World Of Promise/Prodigal Son” (1987) & “Everlasting Piece” (1987)!!! “Hymnal of Remembrance” will also be released on CD in a special Luxurious Triple 7′ gatefold.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who helped find the songs from the 2 demos. We knew in advance that this would be extremely difficult, but after the public announcement of the search for the songs, many fans of Requiem In White came together and now we are delighted to announce that this very important & unique album will finally be released on vinyl after so many years!

Don’t lose this masterpiece!
