SOLAR CAESAR - fosters a hopeful soul in its violent heart!
‘Solar Caesar’ is the second single to be released in advance of ROME’s new epos ‘Hegemonikon’.
Since its formation in 2005, ROME has successfully colonised the rich turf at the intersection of meticulously structured dark folk and post-industrial wave, where moments of resignation cosy up alongside twinkling hopes for the future, making for hugely rewarding listening.
Much like the spearhead single ‘No Second Troy’, ‘Solar Caesar’ features glimpses of electronica and a playful synthesized twist. ‘Solar Caesar’ demonstrates a complex roundelay of combined elements, from the full-on assault of analog synths and effects-heavy guitar to the lyrical cocktail of hope and despair. It’s these touches that establish the band’s professionalism and demonstrate ROME’s gift for wringing longevity out of their own core elements, resulting in another convincing effort for a band that’s managed to get wise without growing that old yet.
‘Solar Caesar’ will certainly manage to lure old fans into ROME’s contemporary scenarios. The band’s intriguing use of electronics provides the perfect platform for integrating this kind of update. The melodic hook of this sun emperor will leave no one wanting. With its urgent but steady pacing, its duelling guitars and ominous oscillator stabs set to nervy, philosophically charged lyrics, ‘Solar Caesar’ is yet another impressive step forward in ROME’s ever-evolving catalogue.
The B-Side ‘This Surrender’ is an anthemic gem, flawlessly blending rock and electronica, and showcasting the band’s growing love for experimentation.
